Centre for Aboriginal Studies in MusicThe Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) is a key Indigenous unit at the University of Adelaide. CASM is located on two sites: the studios at Alumni House, Gate 13 Kintore Ave and the teaching area on the 6th floor of the Schulz Building, North Terrace. The studios include state of the art recording equipment. CASM offers a one-year certificate program and a two-year Associate Diploma in Aboriginal Studies in Music as well as the foundation year. CASM has achieved a national and international profile, through not only its innovative educational programs but also its performance, research and community activities. Since its inception, CASM has been at the forefront of innovation in curriculum development, responding directly to the identified learning needs and aspirations of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander music students. CASM has been described as "the first important catalyst in Aboriginal music's renaissance", and is highly regarded for its role in supporting Indigenous cultural maintenance and production through music and dance. The CASM program provides university level music education that is specifically designed to meet the learning aspirations and requirements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians. Past CASM students have enjoyed success in performance and recording careers, travelled the world, and won international awards for their music.
