Volunteer

The Office of Sustainability has developed two volunteer groups which will come under the banner of the University’s existing volunteer program.

The University program has been running since 2003 and has over 1800 participants. Some characteristics of the program include:

  • support through a volunteer policy and strong governance framework,
  • establishes a role for a  volunteer coordinator that’s responsible for maintaining and implementing the volunteer program,
  • supports development of a Mission Statement to define the purpose and goal of the group,
  • provides a defined job description to raise the status of the volunteer and establish their role in relation to paid staff,
  • includes a volunteer agreement form, and
  • provides Insurance cover for volunteers.

For more information, contact us at ecoversity@adelaide.edu.au or see the Volunteer Program website.

The two volunteer groups are:

1. Ecoversity - support the Office of Sustainability to deliver the University’s environmental sustainability program through participation in key events and activities such as:

2. Glenthorne - participate in activities aimed at enhancing the native habitat and protecting the heritage of the Glenthorne property.

Glenthorne is a 208ha property located at O’Halloran Hill about 17km south of the Adelaide CBD. Owned and operated by the University of Adelaide, Glenthorne falls within the City of Marion council area adjoining the City of Onkaparinga. The property is currently used as a small-scale commercial and research farm. For some photos of the flora and fauna of Glenthorne, go to the Woodland Recovery Initiative site here.

It is envisioned there will be up to 10 volunteer events held throughout the year, with each being themed to attract a broad community of interest.
