International Postgraduate Research Scholarships
Postgraduate Research scholarships are for applicants who wish to undertake full time study in a Masters or Doctorate degree by research. The funding opportunities in this area are limited and therefore extremely competitive.
Below are a variety of scholarships available to international students commencing a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at the University of Adelaide.
Where possible application forms are made available once the scholarship is listed as open. Applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application where the scholarship is administered by the University.
We strongly recommend that all applicants submit their application and all required documents well before the closing dates listed below.

Deep Exploration Technologies CRC Supported PhD projects School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering Applications are invited for the following scholarship leading to the degree of PhD in Engineering/Science. The scholarship is supported by. The Deep Exploration Technologies Cooperative Research Centre (DET CRC) (https://detcrc.centric.com.au/index.php) Field of Study: The vast majority of Australia's existing mines are located where basement is outcropping or shallow. In order to ensure the future of mining in Australia, new technologies must be developed to explore to greater depths, and under cover, in the vast, prospective areas of deep, covered basement. More successful, cheaper and safer methods of deep exploration require research and development in the drilling, in the logging and in the targeting of exploration holes. A number of PhD scholarships supported by the DET CRC are available now in the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences to investigate various aspects of technologies related to deep explorations. Key research areas include developments of new drilling technologies for deep explorations and various ground conditions, modelling of drilling process and optimisation of drilling operation. Eligibility: Open to both domestic and international students. International applicants may also apply the Full Fee Scholarships to cover the tuition fee. Stipend: The scholarship will be for the period 3 years and has a stipend of $22,860 per annum. It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval. Australian life science students can now undertake an Australian PhD in Europe with the support of the EMBL Australia International PhD Program. Up to three students a year can undertake a PhD at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. The PhDs will be jointly awarded by the student’s Australian university and the EMBL. Funding will be provided by EMBL Australia and each student’s Australian host university. Australian universities will also benefit from the program through their partnership with EMBL. |

The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards provide full financial support for international students to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia. They are for applicants from the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, the Americas and the Caribbean. They provide funding for up to 2 years for a masters degree and up to 4 years for a PhD. Award Benefits: tuition fees, a stipend of A$2,500 per month, A$4,500 travel allowance, A$4,000 establishment allowance, plus health insurance. Total award value: up to $228,500 (PhD) or $118,500 (Masters) |

The University may award Full Fee Scholarships to outstanding international students from any country to undertake postgraduate research. Benefits are payment of full tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only). No other allowances are provided. Full fee scholarships will ONLY be allocated to international students who have been previously awarded a stipend by the host School, Faculty, Research Institute. Applicants must also hold at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree and rank competitively against successful applicants in the current International Major Round Order of Merit list. |

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government through the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Its purpose is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in higher education institutions to support Australia's research effort. Approximately 15 scholarships may be available in 2013 for international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in areas of University research strengths. |

The Northcote Graduate Scholarship scheme is administered by the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies, King's College London, on behalf of the Northcote Children's Emigration Fund. Applications are invited from students normally resident in the United Kingdom who wish to undertake a higher degree at an Australian university for a period of up to three years. Applicants must ascertain their eligibility for an Australian graduate programme. There are no limitations as the field of study. The scholarship will provide economy class return air fares to Australia, payment of compulsory fees and charges at an Australian university and an inclusive allowance of around A$20,000 per annum. The Prime Minister's Australia Asia Endeavour Postgraduate Awards provide full financial support for international students to undertake a PhD degree in any field of study in Australia. They are for applicants from 10 Asian countries: China (including Hong Kong and Macau), India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. They provide funding for up to 4 years. There is also the opportunity for an internship in Australia. The top 20 eligible incoming PhD recipients of Endeavour Postgraduate Awards will be awarded the Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Endeavour Awards. International applicants should not contact their Australian host university regarding these Awards; instead they undertake the normal application process for the Endeavour Postgraduate Awards. Award Benefits: the same as for the Endeavour Postgraduate Awards, plus an additional $35,000: $5,000 per semester for the first 3 years, and $5,000 for the internship. This scholarship is offered on the advice of the Faculty of Sciences to students who apply for admission to a research degree at the University of Adelaide and whose proposed research is substantially in the field of pastoral or agricultural sciences. Recipients are usually selected from the Major Round of scholarships applications. The terms and conditions are similar to University of Adelaide Scholarships, however the relevance of the applicant's research topic is considered when deeming eligibility. The scholarships are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia, and to international students who can demonstrate the capacity to meet the tuition fees for the course. Value: Equivalent to the rate of the Australian Postgraduate Award plus 5%. Current status: The awards are allocated as part of the Major Round of applications. Please write 'Turner Family' in the section marked 'other'. The Faculty of Sciences may award the Turner Family Scholarship at any time throughout the year, subject to availability.
