Our Mission

HARC has a charter to enhance interest and capability in ageing research in the University of Adelaide. We aim to both establish a long term multidisciplinary platform for ageing related research and develop strategies that will improve the health and quality of life for older Australians. Some of the ways we are doing this include:

  • Enhancing expertise in ageing research and education by facilitating interactions between groups with complementary interests, by assisting interactions between groups that normally have little contact and by identifying and developing new areas of expertise
  • Providing a vehicle for disseminating information useful to groups interested in research and education relating to ageing
  • Promoting interactions with similar bodies nationally and internationally, especially with respect to facilitating collaborations and exchanges of graduate students and early career researchers
  • Establishing mechanisms for attracting talented researchers to Adelaide
  • Identifying key areas for research in ageing in South Australia and nationally
  • Providing information on funding opportunities to promote ageing related research and education, and forming multi-disciplinary research consortia that will facilitate application for research funds in diverse areas
  • Developing contacts with the commercial sector with reference to sponsorship of ageing research and developing products arising from intellectual property generated by ageing research in the University
  • Providing information, advice and contacts to the University, Government, business and the community on ageing related matters
  • Developing educational networks that promote ageing issues to the public and the inclusion of ageing issues in public forums
  • Encouraging productive national and international partnerships
