Frequently Asked Questions

What is EO Online?

EO Online is an online training program for staff in equal opportunity, discrimination and harassment issues.

EO Online has been developed for staff in the higher education sector by a consortium of Australian universities. It is a self-paced learning program that is easy to access and use. Equity principles, terminology and application are explained through real life case studies and interactive learning techniques.

Who needs to complete this training?

The University of Adelaide encourages all staff to complete this training. If you are a continuing or fixed-term contract employee you need to complete this training as part of your induction.

All staff should complete Module 1 of the training program.

If you have management or supervisory responsibilities, including the supervision of students, you should also complete Module 2 of the training program.

Why do I need to complete this training?

The core values of the University of Adelaide include a commitment the principles of social justice, equality of opportunity and diversity. Given that the University seeks to implement these values in the conduct of its activities and relationships, every staff member is strongly encouraged to explore and understand these issues.

Australian anti-discrimination laws make it "unlawful" to discriminate against or harass someone at work and in education. The University of Adelaide has a legal obligation under State and Federal discrimination and human rights legislation to provide a work and educational environment that is free from harassment, discrimination, bullying and vilification.

EO Online provides staff with the knowledge to perform their legal responsibilities as a member of the University Community.

What is covered in the training?

EO Online covers theoretical knowledge and a practical understanding of how to apply equal opportunity principles in work and study environments. It includes real life university sector-focused case studies and examples and interactive learning techniques for self-assessment in a self-paced learning environment.

Anticipated learning outcomes for staff include:

  • learning how to deal with and prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace
  • understanding legal rights and responsibilities to achieve a discrimination and harassment free work and study environment
  • increasing awareness of equity policies, issues and strategies in the University
  • having a reference for dealing with issues and grievances.

Ensuring a record of completion

The Human Resources Branch is required to keep a record of staff who have completed Module 1 and/or Module 2 of EO Online. Staff who have completed the training will be sent a Certificate of Attainment via email; please keep this certificate for your records.

The record of completion is an automated process that occurs when the module is completed. It requires staff to select the University of Adelaide from a list of institutions provided and enter the following details:

  • staff email address
  • full name
  • organisational unit
  • staff ID

The record is activated by hitting the submit button. It is important that this action is undertaken otherwise a record of completion will not be made.

You can check whether your completion record for this training has been recorded via the monthly-updated Equity Completions table.

Feedback

As well as providing the mechanism to record completion, the last page of each module also provides space for users of EO Online to provide feedback on the program. Constructive feedback is welcomed. The program will be reviewed regularly and users' comments will be a key component of this review process. Staff are encouraged to provide their feedback on EO Online.
