General Information for Staff

Annual Meeting of the University Community

Date/Time: Monday 18 February, 12:00noon-1:00pm
Venue: Bonython Hall

Section 18 of the University of Adelaide Act 1971 requires the University Council to convene a meeting of the University community within 2 months of the commencement of each financial year. (The University's financial year commences on 1 January.) Accordingly a meeting of the University community will be held at 12:00-1:00pm on Monday 18 February 2008 in Bonython Hall. "University community means the Council, members of the academic staff, members of the general (professional) staff, graduates and students".

The meeting will include reports from the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor and President and an opportunity to ask questions. The Vice-Chancellor and President will preside at the meeting.

There will be a video link from Bonython Hall to Room 205 of the Charles Hawker Centre at the Waite Campus and to Room GO5 of the Eastick Building at the Roseworthy Campus. Viewers at these locations will be able to see and hear proceedings in Bonython but will not be able to ask questions.

Academic Board: On-line Election of General (Professional) Staff Members

There will be an election to the Academic Board of two members of the general (professional) staff, at a classification of HEO7 or above, elected by the general staff who are employed for at least 0.5 of a full time equivalent position.

Nominations to the two positions are invited. A nomination must be made on the prescribed form and must reach the Returning Officer in Room G10 in the Mitchell Building, before 5:00pm on Wednesday 13 February 2008. Nomination forms and further information may be obtained from:

North Terrace Redevelopment Stage 2

Changed traffic conditions on North Terrace opposite University car parks
This will affect users of the two university car parks, viz: the one on the south side at 251 North Tce and the one on the north side, the Underground Car Park via gate 23.

The change by the Adelaide City Council involves the completion of the new median strip in the middle of North Terrace and once completed (4/2/08) it will prevent vehicles from turning right into and out of these car parks. That is, it will result in 'a left turn only into and out' of these car parks. This is a permanent arrangement as per the Adelaide City Council's North Terrace Redevelopment Stage 2.

Field Geology Club of SA lecture

The Precambrian Plate Jigsaw Puzzle
By Dr Karin Barovich, Senior Lecturer
Discipline of Geology and Geophysics, University of Adelaide

The idea of plate reconstruction has fascinated geologists since the first maps were made. It is less than one hundred years ago that scientists thought the continents had always been in the same place and had the same shape. It is now well known that, on the contrary, they have always been on the move, and still are. But how did they all fit together in earliest geological times? This is the problem that Karin will address, with special reference to Australia.

Venue: Mawson Lecture Theatre, Mawson Laboratories
Date/Time: Thursday 14 February, 7:40pm

Visitors are warmly invited to attend. For further details contact (the Publicity Officer) Paul Curnow, phone 0402 079 578.
The Field Geology Club of SA is associated with the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
