General Information for Staff
2008 Teaching Space Audit
An audit of Teaching Rooms will be conducted this week, Monday 31 March to Friday 4 April between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm. Whilst it is envisaged that there will be minimal disruption to classes, Property Services would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you, in anticipation, for your cooperation during this time.
The ongoing analysis of space and utilisation is to assist the University with the delivery of educational programs by providing a supply of correctly sized, located and provisioned resources with a goal to minimise maintenance and maximise quality and use of space.
Detailed correspondence has been issued to the Executive Deans for distribution to all staff.
The Waite Precinct Volunteer Program
Farewell and Welcome
A Farewell Function attended by over one hundred guests was held in December 2007 to pay tribute to Yvonne Routledge and Peggy Rowe. Professor Malcolm Oades (former Director of the Waite Institute and Dean of the Faculty), the Hon Martin Hamilton-Smith and Dr Jennifer Gardner (Director of Waite Arboretum) reflected on the extensive and excellent contribution made by Yvonne and Peggy to the rejuvenation of Urrbrae House and its associated activities over the past 17 years. Mrs Lindsay McWha (Patron of the Volunteer Program of the University of Adelaide) also acknowledged their considerable contribution to the University's Volunteer Program and made a presentation on behalf of the Volunteers Committee.
Lynette Zeitz is the new Manager of the Urrbrae House Historic Precinct. Lynette is a graduate of the University and holds a Master of Arts Degree in History. Her first connection with the Waite Campus was in 1988 when she was appointed as the Faculty Registrar of the then Faculty of Agricultural Science. From 2002-2005 she worked as the Executive Officer (Research) in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).
Amanda Jackson is the new Coordinator of Urrbrae House. Amanda has worked for Robin Graham and his Plant Nutrition research group at the Waite Campus. She has a great interest in Museum work, and Urrbrae House seems like a natural extension.

Law 125 Prestigious Speaker Series

Speaker: Associate Professor Tim Stretton, St Mary's University (Canada)
Date/Time: Thursday 3 April 2008, 1:00pm
Venue: Law School (Ligertwood Building), Moot Court Room
In the latter half of the sixteenth century England experienced an explosion of litigation over debt and conditional bonds. This lecture examines the strains this litigation placed on litigants and on the common law and equity jurisdictions that heard their cases. It seeks to identify 'teething problems' in the development of the common law of contract that may have provided a context for the famous pound of flesh scene in The Merchant of Venice.

Dr Stretton's lecture is the second in this series. For further information about Law 125 events, contact Dr Paul Babie.

University of Adelaide Theatre Guild & Creative Writing program
First Time Out Season Two
page#1, Scene#1 ... the end and other stories
Dates/Time: 10-12 April, 7:30pm
Venue: Little Theatre, North Terrace Campus
Cost: $15
page #1, Scene#1 ... the end and other stories is the second of two "First Time Out" new work productions in the Theatre Guild's 70th anniversary season.
It is a collaboration between the Theatre Guild and the University's Creative Writing discipline, which began as a small pilot project called Write to Stage - performed at the University's Open Day 2007.
In Write to Stage, a small ensemble of actors took three pieces of new writing by Creative Writing students - a poem, a monologue and part of a short story - and reinterpreted them for performance under the direction of Michael Allen.
The success of that short project inspired the Guild to repeat and extend it for the 2008 season. A range of new material has been added, the show has been expanded in length, and more actors join the group.
This three-night season, directed by Michael Allen, is a quirky and intriguing exploration of where the creative process can lead.
