VPN Guides

Attention: The VPN Service is not available on campus as access to restricted services is already granted. To install and test VPN while on-campus please connect to the UofA-help wireless network.

All configuration and user guides are available on this page, if you have any issues please inform us via the Service Desk or our feedback form

There are 2 methods to access restricted services from VPN

Anyconnect Client: This traditional method installs software onto your existing computer. Users will need to run this software whenever a VPN connection is required and will be able to continue using their computer as per normal.
This method is typically best for high usage users on your own computer.

Web VPN: The Web VPN method allows users to access restricted services through a web portal. Users login to the portal and can access restricted IT services from there.
This method is useful for light VPN users, or when using a computer that is not your own (at a friends place or internet cafe).

VPN Access

The VPN is not available from most University networks, this means there is some additional processes to follow if you would like to install and test the client while on campus that supports wireless devices only. You will need to connect to the UofA-help wireless network prior to following the guides below.

Many Android phones do not support the Cisco Anyconnect client, if you cannot find the software in the Market, your devices operating system version is not supported. A software change can be made to make it available, however this is not supported by mobile providers or Technology Services.

For Web VPN the default Internet browser (Internet) is also known to have issues. "Firefox" and "Opera" browsers are available from the market will allow you to access some of the Web VPN features, however since mobile devices do no support Java not all features are available.
