Frequently Asked Questions

The MyMedia service consists of 2-3 separate steps:

1. MyMedia Capture Application to record your lectures.
   • Using the MyMedia Capture Application, you can record video, audio, screen capture or all of the above.
   • When you have finished presenting, your content is automatically uploaded to the MyMedia Streaming Server.
2. MyMedia Web Application to edit and manage your MyMedia content.
   • After logging into the MyMedia Web Application, you can see all courses and sessions of your MyMedia content.
   • You can edit the content metadata (name, date recorded, notes, etc), make the content unavailable, and access embed code to publish your MyMedia content into MyUni or anywhere on the web.
3. MyMedia Playlist for MyUni to add your MyMedia sessions to your MyUni course.
   • After adding the Interactive Tool "MyMedia Playlist" to your MyUni course, you can view all sessions of your MyMedia content.
   • You can configure it to display only recordings by a particular lecturer or you can add a playlist across any of your MyUni courses.

There are many reasons why you may wish to record your lectures and you may already be doing so.

• The audio or video from the lecture can be accessed through MyUni just as PowerPoint presentations and other resources are.
• It gives students the ability to independently clarify and revise lecture content in their own time.
• There are many students who find accessing their lectures online useful including:
  • Students with disabilities
  • Part-time students and other students who occasionally find it difficult to attend lectures
  • Students studying in remote locations
  • Students catching up on the occasional missed lecture or clarifying lecture content
  • Students with English as a second language
  • Students revising for exams and completing assignments

At present, the only modifications that can be made are to the metadata of your MyMedia content. You can do this using the MyMedia Web Application.

If you have access to your own video or audio editing software, you are able to download your content from the MyMedia Web Application, make edits, then re-upload your content through the MyMedia Web Application, however this can be quite time consuming.

The University has two statutory licences which give staff limited exemption from the general copyright law because of the University's status as an "educational institution".

The first statutory licence is given to educational institutions under Part VA of the Act and permits the reproduction and communication of audio-visual material from free-to-air and pay television, radio, satellite or cable. The Part VA statutory licence with Screenrights only applies to material "off air". You may not copy or communicate commercially hired or purchased film, audio or CDs unless you have permission from the copyright owner.

The second statutory licence is covered under Part VB of the Act and enables the reproduction and communication of print material (including digital material online).

In order to rely on the statutory licences, staff must place a copyright warning notice on all copyright material reproduced and communicated online.

Please note that the Part VA copyright warning notice will be automatically attached to all recordings used through MyUni.

You can upload your own video or audio content using the MyMedia Web Application. Please refer to the MyMedia Web Application User Guide for information on how to do this.

You can produce your own content and deliver it using MyMedia. Some examples of content you could produce are:

• Audio Interviews
• Video content from outside the lecture theatre
• Video Interviews
