Managers and senior professionals are increasingly recognising the critical role of sustainability in the development of their organisation. As a result, many leading organisations have recently undergone significant changes, driven by the need to improve competitiveness and respond to economic and social trends.
In this highly fluid environment, can any organisation continue doing things as they've always done them, using the same familiar tools, and expect to maintain the same growth in results?
This two-day Management Development Program will explore this pivotal issue, its implications for the role of management, the opportunities created by new ways of thinking and the risks of ignoring them.
Who should attend
Anyone who wants to gain a better theoretical and practical understanding of organisational sustainability will enjoy and find value in this program. Middle and Senior Mangers will find it particularly relevant – there is no part of organisational life that remains untouched by the challenge, and opportunities, of sustainability.
The program will be equally applicable to the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
Learning outcomes
If the constant stream of "sustainability speak" in today's media is any indication, the issue of sustainability now lies at the very heart of the management challenge.
This program has been designed to give you an understanding of both the key big-picture issues and those that lie closer to home. It will explore:
- How our understanding of the natural world affects the way we see organisations.
- The complex systems that operate inside and outside organisations.
- Why the marketplace and the economy are just two aspects of total organisational "ecology".
- The stages organisations move through as they recognise the value of these complex interdependencies.
- How management roles are being shaped by this new awareness.
- Why real sustainability is not about trade-offs.
- The power of social trends.
- Managing uncertainty and change on the path to sustainability.
- The "learning" response to complexity.
- Authenticity and sustainability inside organisations.
- The role of governance and governments.
- Managing financial, social, human and natural capital with equal focus.
- Opportunities for sustainable "wealth" creation.
- How different kinds of organisations are meeting the sustainability challenge.
Interactive learning
This program will provide you with a balance of conceptual understanding and practical learning.
The presenters take an interactive approach. Course participants will be able to explore and develop their thinking together, in an informal and supportive teaching environment.
You will gain a clear understanding of the big sustainability questions and core principles, and a range of ideas on how you might tackle sustainability in your own role and organisation.
