Law and Justice Foundation of New South Wales: Small Grants
Internal Due Date

The aim of the small grants program is to provide financial assistance to organisations planning projects that meet the Foundation's objects. The program is designed to provide fast trunaround time and quick outcomes.

Small grants can be applied for at any time, and decision making takes approximately eight weeks.No organisation is excluded from applying for a small grant. Preference will, however, be given to applications initiated at the community level or with substantial community input. We welcome joint applications from more than one organisation, although the application needs to be auspiced by a single incorporated organisation.

NSW Department of Commerce - The Co-operative Development Grants Program

The ResMed Foundation: Research Grants
Internal Due Date


The ResMed Foundation (Australia) is a private charitable foundation to promote sleep-disordered breathing research and community awareness, of the dangers of untreated sleep-disordered breathing. It has two main objectives

  • Promoting leading research for publication in appropriate scientific and medical publications
  • Providing limited community support by promoting, enhancing and financing charitable, educational, literary, artistic, scientific and other community and philanthropic activities

Individual Grants typically range from AU$5,000 to AU$50,000. The ResMed Foundation will also consider supporting longer-term projects with annual funding.

The Physiotherapy Research Foundation (PRF): General Grants
Internal Due Date


The PRF offers three types of grants.

  • Seeding grants are for new researchers working on new or established research projects.
  • Tagged grants are for researchers working on new or established research projects in a specific area of physiotherapy using 'tagged' funds.
  • General grants are for projects to integrate research evidence into clinical practice, promote research or conduct non-clinical research.

Sudden Infant Death Research Foundation (SIDRF): Research Grants
Internal Due Date

The Sudden Infant Death Research Foundation (SIDRF) call for applications for research support (which might include granting of Research Fellowships) in the field of sudden death in infancy. Applicants need to consider certain points before submitting a request.

  • animal studies will not be considered
  • if sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the focus of the proposal, it must abide by the 1993 NICHD definition of SIDS

SIDRF adopts a two stage selection process for awarding research funding. Stage one requires applicants to submit a short one or two page outline of their intended proposal including hypothesis, methodology, outcome measures, availability of resource material, statistical procedures and estimate of yearly funding.

Cancer Australia: 2010 Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme
Internal Due Date

Cancer Australia and their funding partners – beyondblue, CanTeen, Cancer Council New South Wales, Cancer Council Tasmania, Cure Cancer Australia Foundation, Leukaemia Foundation, Meat and Livestock Australia, the National Centre for Gynaecological Cancers, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the National Lung Cancer Program, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia – are inviting applications for Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Grants to commence in 2011.

The Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme is an annual national research project grant scheme which funds cancer research in identified priority areas to help reduce the impact of cancer in the community and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. The scheme brings together funders of cancer research to support cancer research project grants in identified project areas. Two types of priority-driven project grant are offered through the scheme:

  • Priority-driven Standard Project Grant: Five categories of grant from one to five years in duration, and with total funding from $50,000 - $750,000 (GST exclusive).
  • Priority-driven Young Investigator Project Grant: one year grant of $90,000 (GST exclusive).

Priority-driven Young Investigator Project Grants are being offered to give innovative, high-achieving early career researchers working in all areas of cancer, the support they need to pursue potential breakthrough research.

Priority-driven Standard Project Grants are being offered to fund research that deals with practice and policy priorities nationally. These grants are intended to fund research which will improve outcomes for people affected by cancer and the priority driven nature of the research scheme complements investigator-initiated grant schemes.

Haemophilia Foundation: Research Grants

Haemophilia Foundation Australia (HFA) represents people with haemophilia, von Willebrand disorder and other related inherited bleeding disorders, and their families through:

  • Advocacy and Representation
  • Education
  • Research

HFA works with a network of State and Territory Foundations to ensure everyone with bleeding disorders in Australia has access to the world’s best practice treatment and care.

HFA is a National Member Organisation of the World Federation of Hemophilia, and participates in activities to improve access to treatment and care to people with bleeding disorders around the world.

Grants are now available for medical, scientific or social research which will improve outcomes for people with haemophilia, von Willebrand disorder or related inherited bleeding disorders, and/or medically acquired blood borne viruses.

A total amount of $15,000 is available for one or more projects to be undertaken over the next year.

Australian Dental Research Foundation Inc. (ADRF): Research Grants
Internal Due Date
The ADRF invites applications for grants from clinicians and trained researchers interested in undertaking a dental research project. The Directors are especially interested in research that bears directly on the clinical practice of dentistry. Applicants from general or specialist dental practice are encouraged to seek research support. In recent years grants have averaged around $5,000 and seldom exceeded $10,000. The Foundation will not support requests for salaries, high cost items of equipment or institutional overheads.

The top-ranked project each year automatically gains access to the Australian Dental Industry Association Research Award. This Award offers an additional $5,000 to the Principal Applicant for the grant, either for a new project or for an extension of the scope of the winning one.

L.E.W Carty Charitable Fund: Research Grants
Internal Due Date

Mrs. Carty's Will provides that the Trustees may make grants to those institutions which they believe to be in need of funds "to assist or promote research into the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of physical or mental disorders of human beings". The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP): 2010 Foundation Grants
Internal Due Date


The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is committed to supporting new and emerging general practitioner researchers to conduct research into primary health care, and general practice. In 2010, up to 11 research grants are available to RACGP member general practitioners or general practice registrars through the RACGP Research Foundation. New and emerging general practitioner researchers are encouraged to apply.

The Research Foundation supports GP researchers through facilitating networking with experienced researchers, allocation of CPD points for research participation and the opportunity to apply for one of the grants, and scholarships awarded each year.

RACGP research grants are available to general practitioners and general practitioner registrars who are financial members of the RACGP. Research grants are only paid to incorporated bodies that have an ABN and ACN, and not to individuals.

Australian Association of Gerontology: R.M.Gibson Research Grants
Internal Due Date


The aim of the RM Gibson Research Fund is to support beginning researchers further their careers in gerontological research. There are up to three grants of
approximately $5-6000 each, to a total of $15,000, which will be made to members of the Association for the purpose of medical scientific research.

Applicants must be members of the Australian Association of Gerontology at the time of applying for a grant. Intending applicants who are not members should
apply for membership immediately. The grants are intended to support new researchers at the beginning or in the first five years of their careers, but there is no age limit.

Myer Foundation: Poverty and Disadvantage Small Grants Program
Internal Due Date


The current priority areas for the Poverty and Disadvantage Small Grants Program are as follows:

  • Communities experiencing social and economic exclusion with particular emphasis on Indigenous Australians, asylum seekers and refugees, and people living in isolated
  • rural and remote areas of Australia
  • Children and young people from impoverished backgrounds whose opportunities for development and advancement are curtailed
  • Small, discreet projects that meet the needs of a community rather than supplementary funding for large projects. A small, discreet project will be considered to have a total budget of up to $50,000.
Grants are capped at $10,000, and are made for a one-year period only. The requested amount may be part of a budget of up to $50,000. Only one application can be considered per applicant. This includes applications submitted to another funding area of The Myer Foundation or the Sidney Myer Fund. Exceptions are made when multiple applications are received from universities and other large organisations where they represent different faculties, departments or schools, and the proposals are unrelated.

Scanlon Foundation Grants
Internal Due Date


The Scanlon Foundation was established in June 2001. Its mission is ‘to support the creation of a larger cohesive Australian society.’ It makes grants for general charitable purposes in Australia. Its principle areas of interest are Cultural Diversity and Social Cohesion.

The Foundation wishes to invest as a ‘Social Entrepreneur’ by assisting eligible organisations (with Deductible Gift Recipient status) through Grant Giving for innovative and creative projects, with a focus on Cultural Diversity and Social Cohesion, aimed at:

  • Encouraging leadership from culturally diverse groups or individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Building awareness and acceptance of the right to cultural identity and understanding of difference
  • Enhancing the social development of individuals and/or groups from culturally diverse communities by improving self-awareness, self-esteem, tolerance and communication
  • Fulfilling the potential of youth from multicultural backgrounds though education, mentorship and early intervention
  • Supporting issues-based research that focuses on achieving cohesive social change

Its approach to Grant Giving seeks to identify and invest in ideas that endeavour to result in sustainable outcomes and benefits aimed at achieving social and structural change in supporting the creation of a more cohesive Australian society that will draw strength and pride from its diversity.

Marine National Facility: Call for Applications 2011-2012
Internal Due Date


The Marine National Facility Steering Committee calls for applications for sea time annually and encourages new users of the RV Southern Surveyor to apply. It also encourages applications for national and international collaborative projects and projects covering more than one year.

Australian marine researchers are invited to submit applications to use RV Southern Surveyor during the period July 2011 to June 2012. Southern Surveyor is equipped to support research in the following general areas:

  • Physical, chemical and biological oceanography;
  • Marine geosciences;
  • Environmental sciences; and
  • Fisheries research.

The Marine National Facility Steering Committee has not specified an Area of Operations for 2011-2012. It will accept applications for projects operating in all Australian and regional seas and oceans.

National Science Foundation: The Geoscience Education (GeoEd) Program
Internal Due Date


The Geoscience Education (GeoEd) Program is part of a portfolio of programs within the Directorate for Geosciences (GEO) that seeks to increase public understanding of Earth system science and foster recruitment, training and retention of a diverse and skilled geoscience workforce for the future. The program achieves these goals by supporting innovative or transformative projects that improve the quality and effectiveness of formal and informal geoscience education at all educational levels, increase the number of students pursuing geoscience education and career paths, broaden participation of traditionally underrepresented groups in the geosciences, and promote public engagement in Earth system science.

In FY 2010 and FY 2012, the GeoEd program invites proposals in four main areas:

  • advancing public Earth system science literacy, particularly through strengthening geoscience education in grades K-14 and informal education settings;
  • fostering development and training of the diverse scientific and technical workforce required for 21st century geoscience careers;
  • utilizing modern technologies to facilitate and increase access to geoscience education and/or develop innovative approaches for using geoscience research activities and data for educational purposes; and
  • establishing regional networks and alliances that bring together scientists, formal and informal science educators, as well as other stakeholders, in support of improving Earth system science education and broadening participation in the geosciences.
Proposals focused on basic research that might catalyze discovery and innovation at the frontiers of geoscience learning, education, and evaluation will be considered by the GeoEd Program, but are not viewed as a priority in this solicitation. However, the GeoEd Program expects all proposed project activities to be grounded in current understanding of how students learn and effective STEM education practices. Proposals must include an appropriate evaluation or assessment plan that will help to document project effectiveness and/or impact. The GeoEd Program accepts proposals for pilot or proof-of-concept projects (Track 1) and integrative collaborations (Track 2), as well as for conferences or workshops related to the mission of the program.

Hermon Slade Foundation (HSF): Research Grants
Internal Due Date


The primary objective of the Foundation is to "advance and enhance the progress and harmony of mankind with the Earth through the study and application of Natural Sciences".

Typically the HSF provides project grants up to A$30,000 per year for up to three years. Grants are awarded to Australian institutions for activities within Australia. Occasionally activities located in countries of the south west Pacific may also be funded. The project is in the biological or biophysical sciences or has application in those areas, as exemplified in projects described on this web site, and is not medical research.

Australian Systematic Botany Society: Hansjörg Eichler Scientific Research Fund
Internal Due Date

Applications for an Award from the Hansjörg Eichler Research Fund are welcomed from all current financial members of the Australian Systematic Botany Society. The project must contribute to Australian systematic botany (including cryptogams); must be carried out within Australia; and the applicant must be attached to an Australian research institute (in the broadest sense). The maximum grant awarded will be $2000.

Students, recent graduates and newly-established botanists will be given preference. Applications will be assessed on the quality of the applicant and the proposed project. The project should be clearly defined in scope and preferably result in a publication.

Australia & Pacific Science Foundation: Project Grants

In seeking to achieve its aims, The Australia & Pacific Science Foundation (APSF) provides support, on a competitive basis, for the following activities:

  • The top priority is to encourage high quality research by scientists in Australian national or state institutions, and similar institutions in other countries of the South West Pacific.
  • Occasional support may also be given to such activities as training, publications or conferences.

Typically the APSF provides project grants up to A$15,000 per year for up to three years. Grants are awarded to institutions within Australia or other countries of the South West Pacific region for activities within those countries or within the region.

The Australian Flora Foundation: Research Grants
Internal Due Date

The Australian Flora Foundation was established in 1981 with the aim of fostering scientific research on the biology and cultivation of Australian plants. Funds for research are raised through the membership of the Foundation, donations from various sources and the interest from bequests. Grants are available for projects which commence from December 2010. The Foundation expects to support between two and four projects at $5000 - $12,000 each in 2011 with possible extension into 2012.

Applications for grants to support original scientific projects on the biology and cultivation of Australian plants are invited from research workers in Australia. The Australian Flora Foundation will consider all relevant applications, with special interest in the following categories:

  • conservation of Australian plant diversity, particularly where there are threats from climatic change
  • plant species with potential for cultivation
  • enabling cultivation of Australian plants
  • rare and endangered plants

Australian Orchid Foundation: Projects & Research Grants

Australian Orchid Foundation requests applications that support:

  • Studies to research orchids in their habitat and management practices to protect those orchids and their habitats
  • Studies of wild populations of orchids, their biology, distribution, conservation and taxonomy
  • Cultivation and propagation of orchids

Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales: The Ethel Mary Read (EMR) Research Grant Fund
Internal Due Date

The Council decided to use the bequest to support short term research projects and young zoologists working in any aspect of zoology within Australasia.

EMR Grants are composed of small research grants.  They are intended for researchers who are just starting out in their respective fields of study and will cover minor costs. 

Applications are restricted to members of the RZS (If not a member, please join). A degree is not a prerequisite. However, applicants must be able to demonstrate in their application that they have the scientific competence to undertake and complete the proposed research project. The maximum grant awarded is $AUD1500 per year and applicants are free to re-apply for funding regardless of whether they have been successful in previous years. The size of the grant means that the EMR Research Fund may bridge a gap in existing funding, may be used to instigate pilot studies, may be devoted to travel costs in the field or may be used to purchase equipment. There are no restrictions on how the grant may be used in contributing to the nominated research program.

Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research: Project Development

ACIAR is part of Australia's international development cooperation program and works toward advancing Australia's national interest by assisting developing countries to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development. It does this by encouraging Australian agricultural scientists to use their skills for the benefit of developing countries through international agricultural research and development partnerships.

ACIAR welcomes ideas for new projects at any time. Initial project ideas should be addressed to the appropriate ACIAR Research Program Manager (RPM). National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD): Independent Investigator Award

NARSAD's Independent Investigator Award Program provides support for investigators during the critical period between the initiation of research and the receipt of sustained funding.

Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to schizophrenia, major affective disorders, or other serious mental illnesses. The program is intended to facilitate innovative research opportunities.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree and be an Associate Professor or equivalent who has won national competitive support as a principal investigator. Full Professors will not be considered under this scheme to prevent overlap with NARSAD's Distinguished Investigator Award. Current holders of NARSAD Young Investigator Awards are also excluded from consideration. A two-year award up to $50,000 per year (maximum of $100,000 for two years) is provided to scientists at the associate professor level or equivalent, who are clearly independent and have won national competitive support as a principal investigator).

National Institutes of Health (NIH): Cognitive Remediation Approaches to Improve Drug Abuse Treatment Outcomes (Letter of Intent)

There is a significant public health need to improve the outcome of treatments of substance use disorders (SUDs). SUDs are often associated with cognitive changes that may negatively impact drug abuse treatment outcomes. The purpose of this FOA is to solicit clinical research project applications that design and/or develop cognitive remediation strategies that enhance the outcome of SUD treatments.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to commit approximately $3,000,000 in total costs (Direct plus Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs) in Fiscal Year 2010 to fund 5 to 6 new grants in response to this FOA and the parallel FOA RFA-DA-10-007. An applicant may request a project period of up to 5 years with direct costs of less than $500,000 per year.

Human Frontier Science Program: Young Investigators' Grants and Program Grants (Letter of Intent)

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) supports novel, innovative and interdisciplinary basic research focused on the complex mechanisms of living organisms; topics range from molecular and cellular approaches to systems and cognitive neuroscience. A clear emphasis is placed on novel collaborations that bring biologists together with scientists from fields such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, computer science and engineering to focus on problems at the frontier of the life sciences.

Research grants
are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Emphasis is placed on novel collaborations that bring together scientists preferably from different disciplines (e.g. from chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering) to focus on problems in the life sciences. The research teams must be international. The principal applicant must be from one of the eligible countries. However, other participating scientists and laboratories may be situated anywhere in the world. Applicants must submit a letter of intent to apply for a research grant via the HFSP website and after review, selected teams will be invited to submit full applications. Please note that no individual may be an applicant on more than one letter of intent in this review round.

Two types of Research Grant are available: Young Investigators' Grants and Program Grants.

Young Investigators' Grants
are awarded to teams of researchers, all of whom are within the first five years after obtaining an independent laboratory (e.g. Assistant Professor, Lecturer or equivalent). Applications for Young Investigators' Grants will be reviewed in competition with each other independently of applications for Program Grants.

Program Grants
are awarded to teams of independent researchers at any stage of their careers. The research team is expected to develop new lines of research through the collaboration. Up to US$450,000 per grant per year may be applied for. Applications including independent investigators early in their careers are encouraged.

The Broad Foundation: Medical Research Program (BMRP) for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Research grants are available for innovative proposals that will lead to improvements in the prevention, diagnosis or therapy of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Investigators in nonprofit institutions worldwide are eligible for funding.

Basic and clinical investigators, scientists not currently working in inflammatory bowel disease, and interdisciplinary teams are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to proposals for work conducted with patients and with strong potential of clinical applicability in the foreseeable future. Research using non-human material should lead to translational benefits to patients with IBD.

Funding may be requested for up to two years. Second-year funding will be based on an evaluation of the progress and the perceived value of the findings from the first year of funding. The Australian Academy of Science: International Science Linkages

The Australian Academy of Science invites applications from Australian professional scientists, including early career researchers, to visit Europe between 1 July 2010 and 31 March 2011 to collaborate with European researchers. Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered. The applicant must be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident, living in Australia at the time of submitting the grant application. Support will not be given when the primary purpose of the visit is to attend a conference.

Preference will be given to visits which are short-term and highly-focused. The grant scheme is not to supplement or extend either study or sabbatical leave that is being conducted overseas.

Successful applicants may receive from the Academy a grant-in-aid of up to $10,500. This is based on a contribution towards travel between Australia and the host institution(s) up to a maximum of $2,500, and a living allowance of up to a maximum of $200 per day for a period between 14 days and 40 days (maximum of $8,000). Please note that the full amount applied for may not always be awarded.

The duration of the visit must be for a minimum of 14 days and a maximum of 40 days. The program does not provide funds for bench fees, managerial, insurance or visa costs.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent at the time of application. They should propose a collaborative research project, or a specific activity, which has been developed in consultation with host scientists in those countries. Under this scheme, applicants can request travel support to access international leading-edge small to medium research facilities and equipment. Support will not be provided for costs associated with the use of these facilities.

European Commission: Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES)

The Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme aims at strengthening research partnerships through short period staff exchanges and networking activities between European research organisations and research organisations from countries with which the Community has a science and technology agreement, including Australia.

In comparison with most other Marie Curie actions, which provide mobility possibilities to individual researchers, this scheme provides support to research organisations to establish or reinforce long-term research cooperation through a coordinated joint programme of exchange of researchers for short periods.

There is a minimum of three partners but no maximum size for an exchange programme. The size of the joint program and of the partnership will depend on the expected number of researchers, technical and management staff to be exchanged.

The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund

The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund (the Fund) was established in 2003 as part of an historic agreement for Australia to supply LNG to China. The fund supports activities aimed at establishing genuine, long-term partnerships within the energy sector that create positive economic and environmental outcomes, increase knowledge and skills, particularly in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, and enhance the relationship between Australia and China.

The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund provides opportunities for training, scholarships, research and technology transfer between China and Australia in the natural gas and LNG industry. It has a focus on increasing knowledge about the natural gas production-to-consumption chain including liquefaction, transport, re-gasification, distribution, engineering and procurement.

International Union Against Cancer (UICC): International Cancer Technology Transfer Fellowships (ICRETT)

The Fellowship aims to:

  • Facilitate rapid international transfer of cancer research and clinical technology;
  • Exchange knowledge and enhance skills in basic, clinical, behavioural, and epidemiological areas of cancer research, and in cancer control and prevention;
  • Acquire up-to-date clinical management, diagnostic and therapeutic expertise.

Applications are encouraged in the fields of cancer control and prevention, epidemiology and cancer registration, public education, and behavioural sciences. The short-term Fellowships permit successful candidates to spend up to 3 months at a suitable host institute abroad. They are particularly aimed at investigators and clinicians working in places where such teaching is not yet available and where the necessary facilities exist to apply and disseminate the new skills upon return.

About 120 - 150 awards are available per year with an average award value for one month stipend and travel of US$3,400. Qualified cancer investigators should be in the early stages in their careers whilst clinicians should be well established in their oncology practice. Experts from any country, who have been invited to teach these specialised skills at institutes abroad, are also eligible to apply.

Cancer Research Institute: Irvington Institute Fellowship Program

The Irvington Institute Fellowship Program of the Cancer Research Institute, formerly the Cancer Research Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, answers the need for more researchers in the field of cancer immunology. The scheme of 1851 Research Fellowships is intended to give a few PhD level scientists or engineers of outstanding promise the opportunity for conducting research for a further period.  Awarded for three years, they provide an exceptional opportunity for PhD graduates to pursue further research at the highest level. Approximately eight awards are made each year.

The Fellowships are open to candidates in any of the physical or biological sciences, in mathematics, in applied science, or in any branch of engineering. Candidates in science subjects should normally have recently obtained their PhD degree, or be in the final stages of their PhD studies. Those offering engineering do not have to be in possession of a PhD, but must be of at least PhD standard.

Applications from qualified engineering researchers are particularly encouraged. A candidate must be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Commonwealth, or of the Republics of Ireland or Pakistan. He or she should either have spent at least two out of the past three years at a UK Institution, or be intending to hold the Fellowship at a UK Institution, or both.

The Australian Academy of Science: International Science Linkages (Science Academies Program)
Internal Due Date

The Australian Academy of Science is inviting applications from professional scientists to visit Europe, North America (Canada, USA and Mexico) and North East Asia (China, Korea and Taiwan) between 1 July 2010 and 31 March 2011 to collaborate with researchers in those countries.

Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered.

Applicants must propose a collaborative research project, or a specific activity, which has been developed in consultation with host scientists. Under this scheme applicants can request travel support to access international leading-edge small to medium research facilities and equipment.

Support will not be provided for costs associated with the use of these facilities or when the purpose if the visit is to attend a conference. The duration of the visits must be between 14 and 40 days.

This project is supported by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research’s International Science Linkages – Science Academies Program.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities: Titular Fellowships
Internal Due Date

The ACU Titular Fellowships provide opportunities for nominees of member universities to spend periods of time in other member universities or relevant institutions outside their own country. The purpose is to enable the universities of the Commonwealth to develop the human resources of their institutions and countries through the interchange of people, knowledge, skills and technologies. Fellowships are NOT intended for degree courses, or for immediately postdoctoral programmes; they cannot be held in the country in which the applicant currently works and they cannot be held concurrently with other awards.

Preference will be given to workers in the following priority subject areas: agriculture, forestry and food sciences, biotechnology, development strategies, earth and marine sciences, engineering, health and related social sciences, information technology, management for change, professional education and training, social and cultural development and university development and management. The value is up to £5,000 according to the actual programme, and intended to cover international return air fare; in-country ground travel; medical insurance; board and lodging; fees (where the approved programme includes a formal training programme).

United States Institute of Peace: The Jennings Randolph (JR) Senior Fellowship
Internal Due Date

The Jennings Randolph (JR) Senior Fellowship provides scholars, policy analysts, policy makers, journalists, and other experts with opportunities to spend time in residence at the Institute, reflecting and writing on pressing international peace and security challenges.

Senior Fellowships usually last for ten months, starting in October, but shorter-term fellowships are also available.  Fellowships are open to citizens of any country.

The Institute awards between 10 and 12 fellowships per year. Priority is given to proposals deemed likely to make timely and significant contributions to the understanding and resolution of ongoing and emerging conflicts and other challenges to international peace and security. Applications are invited from all disciplines and professions.

Centre for International Mobility (CIMO): Fellowships Programme

The CIMO Fellowships programme is open to young researchers (after Master-level but not post-doctorate) from all countries and from all academic fields.

The scholarship period may vary from 3 to 12 months. The monthly allowance is 800-1200 euros (in 2009). The scholarship is intended to cover living expenses in Finland for a single person. No additional allowance for housing is paid. Expenses due to international travel to and from Finland are not covered by CIMO.

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds: Travel Grants

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds is a public foundation - an independent, not-for-profit institution for the exclusive and direct promotion of basic research in biomedicine. It supports researchers and projects aimed to experimentally elucidate basic phenomena of human life and pays particular attention to the promotion of junior scientists. The purpose of the travel grants are:

  • to learn clearly-defined methods useful for your ongoing research and the work of your research group at home by visiting another laboratory, or by attending research-orientated courses which include practical training;
  • to enable graduates from abroad and their potential PhD supervisors to evaluate the scientific and personal prerequisites before embarking on a PhD thesis. To this end, the graduate student shall pursue a short project in his/her potential PhD supervisor’s laboratory for at least 4 weeks.

Travel grants are awarded for short-term visits of up to 3 months and applications may be submitted at any time, but must reach the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (B.I.F.) at least 6 weeks before your proposed departure date.

The Foundation for High Blood Pressure (HBP): Young Investigator Travel Awards

The Foundation for High Blood Pressure Research is pleased to announce that it will provide Travel Awards to young Australian researchers presenting their work at the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) Scientific Meeting in Vancouver, Canada on 26-30 September 2010. Individual awards will be up to $3,000.00 as determined by the Foundation.

The awards are available to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers with no more than five years’ experience post-PhD. Preference will be given to members of the High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia. Applicants should send a letter of application to the address below with a copy of the abstract(s) submitted to the Vancouver Organising Committee and provide evidence that the abstract has been accepted.
