The Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC) is an international non-profit organization, based in Muscat, Oman. The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), is to stimulate innovative research that will determine:

• how alcohol disrupts gut-liver-brain physiological communications, and
• how these alterations contribute to the development and exacerbation of alcohol-associated diseases.

These investigations are expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding of cellular and molecular mechanisms by which alcohol impairs homeostatic functions at both organ and systemic levels and initiates/promotes tissue injury.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will utilize the NIH Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R21) mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-AA-10-007, that solicits applications under the Research Project Grant R01 mechanism. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) announces the launch of the Rapid Response Innovation Awards, a one-of-a-kind rolling application program to support novel Parkinson's disease related research in real-time. The goal of this exciting new program is to rapidly support innovative research focused on the cause of and cure for Parkinson's disease (PD).

MJFF is eager to fund high-risk, high-reward projects tackling critical scientific roadblocks that if successful, can open new avenues for PD
therapy development. With the understanding that submission and review of innovative, high-risk, high-reward proposals should not be limited to one deadline each year, the Rapid Response Innovation Awards will operate on a rolling basis. Research proposals may be submitted at any time during the year and funding decisions will be made within six weeks of receiving the application. Research grants are available for innovative proposals that will lead to improvements in the prevention, diagnosis or therapy of Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Investigators in nonprofit institutions worldwide are eligible for funding.

Basic and clinical investigators, scientists not currently working in inflammatory bowel disease, and interdisciplinary teams are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to proposals for work conducted with patients and with strong potential of clinical applicability in the foreseeable future. Research using non-human material should lead to translational benefits to patients with IBD.

Funding may be requested for up to two years. Second-year funding will be based on an evaluation of the progress and the perceived value of the findings from the first year of funding. There are no deadlines or specific dates by which to request funding. Proposals are accepted and reviewed year–round, and the BMRP makes every effort to provide rapid response and funding.

The Harvard Australian Studies Committee encourages applications for grants of up to US$40,000 to support academic conferences / symposia organised jointly by Australian scholars and Harvard faculty. The committee will consider support for conferences involving approx 20-40 participants drawn from Australian academic institutions, Harvard University, and elsewhere, meeting for a day or more to present and discuss current research. The National Geographic Society/Waitt Grants Program, an initiative of the National Geographic Society and the Waitt Institute for Discovery, helps qualified and experienced individuals launch the most difficult stage of a project for which to secure funding—the search. Grants are made for exploratory fieldwork that holds promise for new breakthroughs in the natural and social sciences. NGS/Waitt Grants applications are processed throughout the year and grants are awarded expeditiously to help researchers take advantage of immediate opportunities.

Funded through a five-year grant from the Waitt Family Foundation, the NGS/Waitt Grants Program is administered by National Geographic Mission Programs and makes approximately one hundred grants annually of $5,000 to $15,000. Highly qualified scientists of any discipline who could contribute to the scientific development of an Austrian research institution by working at it. The Lise Meitner Program is designed:

The Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme aims at strengthening research partnerships through short period staff exchanges and networking activities between European research organisations and research organisations from countries with which the Community has a science and technology agreement, including Australia.

In comparison with most other Marie Curie actions, which provide mobility possibilities to individual researchers, this scheme provides support to research organisations to establish or reinforce long-term research cooperation through a coordinated joint programme of exchange of researchers for short periods.

There is a minimum of three partners but no maximum size for an exchange programme. The size of the joint program and of the partnership will depend on the expected number of researchers, technical and management staff to be exchanged.

The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund (the Fund) was established in 2003 as part of an historic agreement for Australia to supply LNG to China. The fund supports activities aimed at establishing genuine, long-term partnerships within the energy sector that create positive economic and environmental outcomes, increase knowledge and skills, particularly in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, and enhance the relationship between Australia and China.

The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund provides opportunities for training, scholarships, research and technology transfer between China and Australia in the natural gas and LNG industry. It has a focus on increasing knowledge about the natural gas production-to-consumption chain including liquefaction, transport, re-gasification, distribution, engineering and procurement.

The Fellowship aims to:

• Facilitate rapid international transfer of cancer research and clinical technology;
• Exchange knowledge and enhance skills in basic, clinical, behavioural, and epidemiological areas of cancer research, and in cancer control and prevention;

Applications are encouraged in the fields of cancer control and prevention, epidemiology and cancer registration, public education, and behavioural sciences. The scheme of 1851 Research Fellowships is intended to give a few PhD level scientists or engineers of outstanding promise the opportunity for conducting research for a further period.  Awarded for three years, they provide an exceptional opportunity for PhD graduates to pursue further research at the highest level. Approximately eight awards are made each year.

The Fellowships are open to candidates in any of the physical or biological sciences, in mathematics, in applied science, or in any branch of engineering. Candidates in science subjects should normally have recently obtained their PhD degree, or be in the final stages of their PhD studies. Those offering engineering do not have to be in possession of a PhD, but must be of at least PhD standard.

The ACU Titular Fellowships provide opportunities for nominees of member universities to spend periods of time in other member universities or relevant institutions outside their own country. The Jennings Randolph (JR) Senior Fellowship provides scholars, policy analysts, policy makers, journalists, and other experts with opportunities to spend time in residence at the Institute, reflecting and writing on pressing international peace and security challenges.

Senior Fellowships usually last for ten months, starting in October, but shorter-term fellowships are also available.  Fellowships are open to citizens of any country.

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds is a public foundation - an independent, not-for-profit institution for the exclusive and direct promotion of basic research in biomedicine. It supports researchers and projects aimed to experimentally elucidate basic phenomena of human life and pays particular attention to the promotion of junior scientists. The purpose of the travel grants are:
