Hughes Plaza Precinct Access

While the Learning Hub is under construction, there are changes to accessibility around the Hughes Plaza precinct and some areas have been relocated.

Access Changes

As the Hughes Plaza demolition works get underway, the final stages of the building site closure have to be implemented to ensure the safety of staff, students and the public. This includes the closing of the current access path past the University Club old premises, to the Architecture building auto door, which will be closed from early June 2010 for the duration of the Project (click here for map view). Alternative access to Architecture, Computer Science, Health Services, Flentje Lecture Theatre and Polygon Lecture Theatre will be via the Horace Lamb Building auto door on Level 1. The access lift on Level 4 of the Plaza is still operational as usual.

The access lift on Level 4 of Union House is still operational as usual. The University of Adelaide Club has opened in its new premises on Level 4 of Union House, having been relocated from its building on Hughes Plaza.

Access Restrictions on Western Drive

To improve pedestrian safety during the construction period of the Hughes Plaza Learning Hub, vehicle access on Western Drive (Gate 20 on North Terrace, past the Mitchell Building) will be restricted between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, for the duration of the project.

From 8am to 6pm, a dedicated traffic management contractor will be located at Gate 20 who will escort the entry and exit of essential vehicles only. At all other times access will be unrestricted.

Furthermore, Western Drive roadway between the Hughes and Architecture buildings will be fenced off. A footpath passageway will allow pedestrians and wheelchair access through. To reduce congestion in this area please use alternative routes to your destination, where possible.

By minimising traffic in these areas we are limiting the potential risks of injury, as part of construction works safety measures. We hope that this will not cause too much of an inconvenience and thank you for being accommodating with the processes involved.
