The ATEM Breakfast will launch the 2012 Professional Development program which this year features the TEM Conference to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from 16 to 19 September 2012.

As this breakfast session is at the beginning of the year and there is a new era in Commonwealth funding for Universities, we have invited the Chief Operating Officer to the University of South Australia to provide attendees with some insight into the new funding model and its likely impact on the University sector.

The UN Women Australia Adelaide Chapter is delighted to host Jane Hutcheon as she reflects on Women and the Arab Spring as part of our 2012 International Women's Day celebrations. Jane Hutcheon is the presenter of One Plus One, ABC News 24's weekly interview program. As a news presenter for ABC News 24, Jane has been in the chair covering the unfolding of the Arab Spring and as a foreign correspondent, she's covered events including the Hong Kong Handover (1997), Israeli-Palestinian conflict (2000), the aftermath of the Iraq invasion (2003-2005) and the 2006 Israeli-Lebanon War. Beyond her television work Jane is the author of From Rice to Riches.

Tickets: $25 - proceeds are going towards the UN Women Partners Improving Markets Program which is working to make marketplaces safe for women in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

The WPDN has reserved two tables for the 2012 Adelaide UN Women IWD Breakfast in March.

The Breakfast is hosted by Senator Penny Wong and the Guest Speaker this year is Alice Pung, a Melbourne writer, lawyer and teacher. The Adelaide has the largest International Women’s Day breakfast in the country, with over 2000 attending last year! This is a fantastic event sells out fast so please respond quickly to ensure you are able to get a seat.

Open to Professional Women

The Behind Closed Doors entrepreneurs program was created in response to a need for female business owners and entrepreneurs to have a support network where they can discuss professional and personal issues and challenges in a totally confidential environment, while at the same time encourage each other to extend themselves further to achieve and succeed in their business ventures.

The program's objectives aim to:

  • Deliver practical leadership and management sessions to generate better business owners and leaders.
  • Provide a confidential business owner's support network.
  • Expand and broaden networks and business relationships.
  • Extend individuals personally and professionally.
  • Increase the expertise of female business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Mentor peers to accept greater business challenges.
  • Encourage and support members to nominate for Board and committee positions.
  • Assist members to participate in awards programs such as the Telstra Business Women's Awards.

The winner of the scholarship will be assigned to a behind closed doors entrepreneurs group facilitated by one of South Australia's leading businesswomen, Kylie Bishop.
