The University has invested in several new institutes to tackle the most pressing social, economic and environmental problems of our time.
The Waite Research Institute (WRI) brings together researchers from a range of disciplines including plant biology, genetics, oenology and viticulture, soil sciences, agronomy, clinical nutrition and agricultural economics. They will pool their expertise to find solutions to major problems including meeting the challenge of ensuring global food security and providing Australia's agricultural, wine and food industries with innovative research-led developments.
The Debate@The Waite series is the WRI's primary public engagement activity and aims to raise awareness and understanding of agriculture and to highight the world-class research done at the Waite Campus. These free evening events are held at regular intervals at Lirra Lirra Cafe on Waite Road, Urrbrae, in the beautiful Adelaide foothills.
The first of the 2012 Debates was held on Thursday 15 March on the topic of whether the future success of the Australian wine industry will be based on technology (and innovation) or traditions.
Go to the WRI Blog for a wrap-up and a link to the audio recording of the debate, and watch this space for details of future debates.
The second annual celebration of Peter Waite Day will take place from 3-6pm on Friday 11 May, 2012 at Lirra Lirra Cafe on Waite Road.
All Waite Campus staff are invited to attend - details can be found here.
